Hailsham Chambers
Hailsham Chambers is a well established set of Chambers. Specialisations include Professional Negligence, Medical Law, European Law, Personal Injury and Commercial Litigation.
The Chambers encompasses approximately 35 barristers working on a self employed basis. Each barrister is responsible for their own computer requirements and as such there is a diverse range of PC hardware and software in use.
Hailsham Chambers is a shared office facility whereby these independent barristers can utilise shared office resources. Shared resources include computer network resources such as a file server for centralised file and print, backup, anti-virus, communications and Internet access. Each barrister connects to the office network when in Chambers.
Hailsham Chambers worked with Doherty IT Solutions to improve these existing shared computer facilities to deliver better, more functional IT services to their barristers while reducing costs and administration.
The Challenge
- Improve shared Internet connectivity by providing increased security and performance at a fixed cost
- Reduce Internet connectivity charges compared to the existing ISDN Internet connection
- Provide improved email facilities, shared file and print services, centralised backup and antivirus facilities along with out of the office connection facilities to Barristers and back office staff
- Reduce on-going administration and support costs
The Solution
- Doherty IT Solutions worked with Hailsham Chambers to identify their business requirements
- A solution was then proposed to Hailsham Chambers and implemented by Doherty IT Solutions
- Doherty IT Solutions now provide on-going support for the implemented solution
- In greater detail, Doherty IT Solutions installed new file server hardware along with Microsoft’s Small Business Server (SBS) 2000 software, backup solution, antivirus software, and ADSL to provide fixed cost broadband connection to the Internet for email and VPN out of the office connections to the network. The new network is based on Microsoft’s Windows 2000 server, email and collaboration on Exchange 2000 and Internet security on Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) 2000.
